Goji Berries – Health Benefits Of This Powerful Super food

Goji berries represent one of the most powerful plants in the world. The region of origin is proposed to be somewhere in the southeastern parts of Europe or the southwestern region of Asia.

Goji berries can be found with the following names: Chinese wolfberry, Tibetan or Himalayan goji, Barbary matrimony vine, matrimony vine and etc. Goji berries are also called “red diamonds”, they are an integral part of the traditional Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, and Japanese medicine. It is also considered such as “super food” because is rich in phytonutrients.

Goji berry contains polysaccharides, especially the beta-glucans known as modifiers of the immune response against infectious processes. Goji berries contain a complete range of carotenoids (beta carotene, zeaxanthin, lycopene, lutein, cryptoxanthin) this substance is important for skin health and vision.

The health benefits of consuming Goji berries are enormous. They strengthen immunity, due to the large presence of antioxidants, prevents the onset of cancer, leukemia and other dangerous diseases. Also preventing the onset of cardiovascular diseases, energizing, having a strong antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effect, protecting the vision, help with increased prostate, increase fertility in women, slow down the aging process of the body. They are eaten raw, cooked, or dried (like raisins) and are used in herbal teas, juices, wines, and medicines.

Precautionary measures

Moderate eating Goji berries is probably safe. Recommended daily intake for consuming Goji berries is 10-30 grams.

But, be sure to consult with your health care professional, if you taking some drugs, especially such as blood thinners, drugs for diabetes and blood pressure, because Goji berries could interact with this drugs.
