Yeast is a type of microscopic fungi that lives in the human body. Yeast infections can affect anyone from children to adults and both men and women, but they are most common in women.

A lesser known fact is that everyday habits can cause the development of yeast infection. There are no specific measures that could protect you from this unpleasant and common disease. But if you want to reduce the risk of a yeast infection, avoid the following 4 daily habits.

1. Consuming a large amount of foods or beverages that contain yeast or sugar

When are consuming foods that containing sugar and yeast, these ingredients reach in the bloodstream, and then into the vagina. The yeast is fed with sugar and starch. Beer and wine contain yeast and sugar, and therefore excessive consumption of alcohol can cause this infection. If you are prone to yeast infections, be moderate in the consumption of mild things, cheese, mushrooms and fermented foods.

2. More often consuming antibiotics

Antibiotics can kill bacteria that cause disease, but they can also destroy good bacteria that maintain acidity in the vagina. When does not have enough lactobacillus (they role is to convert sugars to lactic acid), the vagina is not acidic enough, therefore the possibility of yeast infection is increased.

3. Taking a certain type of contraception

Yeast infections, is more common in users of hormonal contraception. In this case, contraceptive with lower dose of estrogen should be prescribed. But the benefits of hormonal contraceptives significantly outweigh the problems caused by yeast infection. So, it is almost never necessary to abandon hormonal contraception, and for the best option, follow the advice of your health care professional.

4. Carrying too narrow and wet clothes

To enable the fungus to cause infection, the environment must be warm, wet and insufficiently acidic. When the sex organ “does not breathe”, it can increase the chances of yeast infection. After physical exercises and swimming, after showering, it is necessary to dress dry and clean clothes.
